Google and Facebook have effectively replaced the traditional Yellow Pages as the mechanism upon which customers now make their first enquiry. 

Interestingly, the Yellow Pages famed advertising line of 'let your fingers do the walking' still holds. It is just the mechanism for inquiry has changed. 

When a business provides excellent service and it is rewarded by an excellent review on Google, the flow on in referrals is priceless. 

For this writer, providing a Google review for local kindergarten was a joy to write, alongside service received by the local doctor. 

Going above and beyond for customers tends to yield excellent results in terms of building trust and attracting new customers. Conversely a negative review can repel potential customers before they have even clicked on your website. 

Google provide the search but Facebook allows greater levels of customer engagement as well as being able to handle a negative experience. 

While Google lets your fingers do the walking, the ability of Facebook allows the business owner and the customer to do the talking.

However in order to get the conversation going about your business, getting Google to take notice of you and put you front and centre in front of potential customers involves setting up a Google My Business account. 

Positive reviews also serve the dual purpose of boosting the business' page ranking and where it appears in the search. In other words the higher, the better. 

Likewise for Facebook, setting up a business page on Facebook with the appropriate recommendations in place is relatively straight forward.
